Hi Everyone,
Hope this message finds you all well in these unprecedented times. If you need something to take your mind off of COVID-19 for a while, this is a project
that could benefit from your participation.
PLEASE READ the message below from Darrick Wotachek regarding providing an AIS station with tools at the landing for boaters to use to help clean their boats
before entering our lake. As we are unlikely to get a CD3 decontamination unit anytime soon, an AIS station will remind boaters to clean their boat AND provide
the tools to do so.
Let one of the Lid board members know what you think about this on Fanny Lake
Anyone interested in helping out with this project please contact Jerry Norberg at 689-3375 or norbergjj@aol.com
To all Lake Associations,
I have reached out to a few other Counties to see how we could provide some basic tools to help promote CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY at our landings all over the County.
IF any Lake Associations are interested in taking a project on like this please answer the following questions or comment on following statements:
to develop this with MNDNR approval. Who would that be from your Lake?
Jacob claims none were stolen the first year and it apparently formed good habits. IF for some reason, the County does not decide to purchase the first CD3 unit for Spectacle Lake (decision is still pending); then this may be a cheaper secondary option. The down fall is you don’t get the wet/dry vac. or the air blower, but you/County would save over $17,000 or more.
This would be a great project for kids that are teenage or greater. Painting, cutting and assembly is all that is needed. Bought the tools at a local hardware hank store in Crookston, grabber tools ($20), Stiff deck broom ($17), soft bristle ($10), and extendable squeegee ($12). Bought sign quality plywood ($35) per 4’ x 8’ sheet and painted it with primer. I edged the backside of the sign with 2” x 2” dimensional lumber and screwed them together. With scrap shingles and extra overhang plywood put the canopy over it. I did not have a trail camera but I am referring to the lids camera systems we have installed on both these sites. They capture video of boats launching but could also is triggered by people around the access points. I put this on to deter people from thinking they will just keep the tools.

IF any Lake Associations are interested in taking a project on like this please answer the following questions or comment on following statements:
- Would a small group of volunteers be interested in taking this project on from your Lake? Yes or NO
- Would Lake Association be willing to buy tools themselves?
- MN DNR Permit is needed to do this on MN DNR administered access. So IF you choose to do something like this, a project coordinator should be assigned
to develop this with MNDNR approval. Who would that be from your Lake?
- County could invest in first round of tools with AIS Funds, but replacement costs(IF stolen) would/should be negotiated with Lake Associations.
- Constructing the signs could be a community service project for C-I Fishing Team or High School Students. Thoughts?
- This would be a much cheaper investment to form positive habit changes in boaters then a CD3 unit, which can cost upwards of $31,000 for purchasing one unit.
